“As a grandparent, I had a very basic understanding of what having an IEP meant. To better help my grandson, I started asking my son questions about my grandson’s IEP. This led to more questions, so my son invited me to attend the IEP meeting. One of my concerns was why my grandson’s speech therapy was discontinued since he was still having difficulty with certain sounds. I was fortunate that my coworker knew Bridget and was able to put me in contact with her thinking she may be able to help. One of Bridget’s first questions was, does he have an IEP? As we talked, she suggested resources to assist my grandson and walked me though better understanding what an IEP was and how to navigate an IEP meeting to better assist my grandson. My grandson’s IEP team teaches and mentors him in a way that he can better understand the information he has been given. Bridget did that for me regarding an IEP. I walked into my first meeting with a better understanding of how to use the resource waiting for me inside.”
